To the characters, none of whom escape the series unscathed.

There was a soft clinking of glass at the far end of the kitchen. George Weasley, amazed that anyone at Number 12 Gimmauld Place was still awake, stopped dead in the doorway. His twin brother Fred collided gently with him from behind.

In the silence of the room, the soft voices were clearly audible.

“To old memories, then?”

“I’ll drink to that, Moony.”

The clinking came again, this time glass against glass.

“We did some pretty wild stuff back then, didn’t we?”

“I still can’t believe half the things you and James got away with.”

“You did some crazy stuff yourself, Moony. You and Stephanie O’Con—”

“Are you every going to forget that, Padfoot?!”

“Highly unlikely.”

Since the world ‘Moony’ was first uttered, the boys had been listening intently. One match to the names of their mysterious co-troublemakers might be coincidence, but two certainly wasn’t.

Fred stepped past George and walked shamelessly to the table. Remus Lupin turned at the sound of his footsteps.

“Hello, Fred, George. You two are up late.”

Fred seemed speechless. His mouth moved soundlessly. Eventually, he forced out the words.

“You’re Moony?”

For some time, Remus seemed perplexed. Slowly and quite visibly, realization spread across his face.

“Well, that explains quite a lot. Now I know why Harry wouldn’t tell me where he got it. Nicked it from Filch, did you?”

Fred nodded as George approached. “In our first year, too.”

Sirius tipped his chair onto its two back legs. “Impressive, boys. How’d you do it?”

“I let off a Dungbomb in the corridor,” George began.

“And I snuck into his office and took the first thing I could out of the drawer that said Confiscated and Highly Dangerous,” Fred continued for him. “It looked like an old bit of parchment, but there was no way even Filch would keep that.”

Remus rolled his eyes as Sirius smirked. “How’d you learn to work it?” inquired the latter.

“Well, at first it just insulted us when we tried anything,” said Fred laughingly. “Then George got really aggravated and said ‘I promise I’m going to break the rules.’ ”

“When I said that, a some lines appeared on the parchment for a few seconds. So we fiddled around with the words for a while until we got the map.”

Sirius nodded approvingly. “I’m quite impressed.”

“I admit, I am too,” said Remus.

“Wait, how did you know that we gave it to Harry?” asked George.

“I confiscated it from him, but I gave it back after I resigned. Couldn’t let that much hard work go to waste, now could I? I had to confiscate it, or Severus would’ve and who knows what would’ve happened to it then.”

Still seemingly in awe of his once-professor, Fred spoke again. “Who are Prongs and Wormtail? And how did you come up with the names?”

Sirius made a horrible, pained noise and kept his mouth firmly shut. Leaning forward glumly, Remus spoke. “Prongs was James Potter and Wormtail” – here Sirius made his noise again – “is Peter Pettigrew. As for the names, we based them on the animals we turn into, whether willingly or not. I turn into a wolf, though not of my own free will, Sirius is a dog, James was a stag and Peter …”

“Was a rat,” Fred finished bitterly.

Sirius looked shocked. “Ron told us,” explained George. “Appropriate, really, him being a rat. The bastard. Ron really had to choice but to explain; after Mum saw you in the Hospital Wing she nearly had a heart attack.”

“This has been quite interesting,” said Fred, smirking. “But Moony, who’s Stephanie and what were you doing?”

I think I may need to get on writing that slash ... it's unrequited, right? I'm not sure how I'll be able to handle going back to a plus account. Totally spoiled now.

Well, you can surely save $20 or so within the next year so you can stay at a paid account, right? ;)

Yep, unrequited :D :D
