Fic: Legacy (Harry Potter, twins and Ginny)

Title: Legacy
Characters: Fred, George, Ginny
Summary: Before Fred and George abandon full-time education, they've got one important thing to do ...
Note: I don't actually remember when I started this, but it may well have been before HBP came out, so its canon-icity is questionable. In other words, I'd say it is and Ri would say it isn't.

Disclaimer: Harry Potter and everything pertaining thereto belong to J.K. Rowling. I am making no money from this and do it for my own personal amusement.

Ginny Weasley stared at her Transfiguration notes. Unfortunately, she’d been doing so for the past half hour, and they still made no sense. “Maybe Hermione can help me,” she muttered. She moved her notes so she could look for her friend—

“Ginny!”

“Our dear little sister!”

Her beloved older siblings—Gred and Forge—dropped almost simultaneously into the empty chairs to her left and right. Ginny scowled.

“What do you two want?”

“Well, Ginny,” Fred began, “We’d like to let you in on a little secret.”

“You see,” George continued, “Now that we’re off the Quidditch team and Umbridge is becoming madder by the week,”

“We’re off. We’re leaving,” they concluded together.

What?! You’re both mental! Mum’ll have your heads!”

At this, George grinned.

“Nah, she’ll only have Fred here killed. Mum always assumes that whatever we did was his idea.”

“That’s completely beside the point, George. You know as well as I that Mum will hunt you both down herself.”

George shrugged.

“That’s not the reason we wanted to tell you, Gin,” he said calmly, “Though seeing you channel Hermione is quite amusing.”

“What we wanted to tell you,” Fred cut in, “Is that we pick you to carry on our legacy.”

Ginny looked appalled.

“Which ‘legacy’ is this? The one of getting more owls home than all the rest of Gryffindor combined? The one of regularly disemboweling toads with Filch? The one of turning teachers’ desks into animals in the middle of class?” she asked, more than a little accusatorily.

“Well … all of them,” Fred said cautiously. “Mostly we want you to carry on our legacy as the best pranksters at the school.”

Ginny rolled her eyes. “I’m flattered, but how do you expect me to do that without knowing all your tricks? I don’t know all the secret passages or anything …”

They grinned. “So you accept the burden of carrying our legacy?” George said.

“I suppose,” Ginny replied, shaking her head.

“And,” added Fred, “about the other stuff, just ask Harry."
